BankConnect
BankConnect is available to all Grow plans. BankConnect lives on the Accounting > Accounts page. From there you can see your cash on hand, total contributions, and bank balance at a glance, along with a list of connected accounts, recent deposits, and recent transactions. There are two ways to bring bank activity into Campaign Deputy: connecting an account via Plaid (BankConnect+), or adding a manual account and uploading statements yourself. This article covers the manual path, which is the BankConnect feature.
Adding Your Bank Account Manually
1. From Accounting > Accounts, click "Add Manual Account."
2. Enter an Account Name (for example, "Campaign Checking Account") so you can identify it later.
3. Enter the Bank/Institution Name.
4. Select the Account Type from the dropdown (Checking is the default).
5. Enter the Last 4 Digits of the account number.
6. Optionally, enter the 9-digit Routing Number.
7. Click "Create Account."
Once created, the account appears in your Accounts list and gets its own detail page where you'll upload statements and reconcile transactions.
Uploading a Bank Statement
Before uploading, export a statement from your bank in one of the supported formats: OFX (Open Financial Exchange), QBO (QuickBooks Online), or QFX (Quicken). Most banks let you do this from online banking by logging in, going to your account's statements or transaction history, and looking for an "Export" or "Download" option, then choosing the Quicken or QuickBooks format.
1. Open the manual account from your Accounts list.
2. Click "Actions," then "Upload Bank Statement."
3. Click "Browse" and select your OFX, QBO, or QFX file.
4. Click "Upload & Preview" to review the transactions before they're added.
The account page tracks how many statements you've uploaded and shows every imported transaction with its date, description, amount, and status.
Matching Contributions to Deposits
After a statement is uploaded, each transaction starts out as "Pending." Click any pending transaction to reconcile it, and choose the option that fits:
• Bank Deposit — matches the transaction to one or more existing contributions already recorded in Campaign Deputy. BankConnect will surface potential matches automatically based on amount and date; if there aren't any, you can still name the deposit and save it manually.
• Refund — links the transaction to an existing disbursement that was returned to the campaign.
• Single Contribution — records a brand-new contribution directly from the transaction, letting you fill in the contributor, date, amount, and compliance details (such as the associated election) in one step.
Once a transaction is matched, its status changes from "Pending" to "Matched," and it's reflected in your account balance and contribution records going forward.
Manual accounts track balances and transactions entirely from the files you upload, so nothing updates automatically until you add a new statement.
