Cash on Hand Balance

Edited

If you're noticing that your cash on hand balance is off in your report, there could be a few different reasons why. Here are a few explanations that could help you understand why this might be happening:

  • Coding errors: Mistakenly coding a transaction to the wrong account can cause your cash on hand balance to be off. Double-check that all of your transactions have been coded correctly. For instance, In-Kind contributions do not increase your cash-on-hand balance. Loans increase your balance, while Debts will not.

  • Bank reconciliation: If you haven't reconciled your bank statement with your records, this could cause your cash on hand balance to be off. Make sure that you've reconciled your bank statement and that all of the transactions on it have been recorded in your books.

  • Missing Disbursements from Loans: If you have loaned money to the campaign for a purchase, you will need to enter in the loan and the disbursement for the purchase or your cash-on-hand balance will not match.

  • Missing Credit Card Fees: Online contributions have a fee for each contributions. You may need to add this fee as a disbursement.

It's important to keep in mind that these are just a few of the possible reasons why your cash on hand balance might be off. The best way to determine the root cause of the problem is to review your financial records and transactions in detail and look for any discrepancies or errors. If you're still having trouble figuring out why your cash on hand balance is off, it may be helpful to consult with a professional accountant or bookkeeper.
